ADELAIDE A. WILKES
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Seventh-day Adventist Church in White Salmon for Adelaide "Allie" Andrew Wilkes of White Salmon who died Oct. 1 in Portland, Ore. She was 72. She was born April 29, 1917, in Naches, Wash., to Olive (Daust) and Alfred Mitchell. She was raised in Yakima Valley. March 14, 1939, she married LeRoy Andrew. The couple lived in Glenwood for about 30 years until his death. She then moved to Portland where she studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Portland Adventist Medical Center for about 15 years. June 25, 1985, she married Orville Wilkes at the home of a friend in Lyle. They resided in White Salmon. Mrs. Wilkes was a member of the White Salmon Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed to travel, camp, fish, hunt and anything to do with hiking and nature. She is survived by husband Orville of White Salmon; daughter Deanna Hanson of Novato, Calif.; brother Donavan Mitchell of Astoria, Calif.; step-children Donna Butt of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Kenneth Wilkes of Mollala, Ore., Keith Wilkes of Adams, Ore., Lee Wilkes of Cook and Jim Wilkes of White Salmon; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Douglas and daughter Joan.
