ABE MERESSE RITES ON FRIDAY
Funeral services for Abel Meresse, 85 owner and publisher
of the White Salmon Enterprise for over 50 years, will be held at 11 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 30 at Gardners Chapel in White Salmon.
The Rev. Roger Clevenger will officiate. Burial will
be in Goodwill Cemetery.
Active bearers will be Walter Hunsaker, Al Lermo, Hub
Strain, Marion Babb, Leon Berry and W. S. Logan. Honorary bearers will be
Roy Heaman, M.D. Vigus, R.T. Anderson, Orie Kreps, Merle Biesanz, John Pearce,
Dan Bartlett and Earl Warneke.
Mr. Meresse was born Nov. 9, 1897 at Leuz, France and
has lived in White Salmon since 1912. Although he has been in failing health
for the past year, he helped out at the shop as late as last week.
He was a 1902 graduate of Pacific University, Forest
Grove, Oregon where his family lived many years. On Dec. 31, 1910 he was
married to Eva Huston in Albany, Oregon.
Prior to 1910, Abe Meresse worked on the Oregonian, Oregon
Journal and the Albany Democrat. Before moving to White Salmon in 1912 he
worked on newspapers at Vale and Condon, Oregon.
He died Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Skyline Hospital after suffering
a heart attack at his home.
He is survived by his wife Eva and son Robert, both of
White Salmon; daughters Catherine Garrett of White Salmon and Nancy Aalvik
of Carson; and ten grandchildren.
The Mt. Adams Sun Office will be closed from 10:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. Friday in respect and regard for a good neighbor and fellow
publisher.
