PIONEER FROM KLICKITAT DIES
Services for Alvin Edward Stearns, 83, of Klickitat,
were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Gardner's Funeral Home, White
Salmon.
The Rev, Oscar Olsen, pastor of the W.S. Methodist church
officiated. Burial was in the W.S. Odd Fellows cemetery.
Active pall bearers were Vic LeGall, Herman Schmutzer,
Albin Berglund, Clarence Kruger, Jack Meads and R. Goodwin.
Honorary bearers were Fritz Markum, John Berry, Frank
Creighton, Earl Wark, Alex McIntyre and Einar Westlund.
Mr. Stearns' family was the second one to settle at
Klickitat. They came there in 1897.
The deceased was born May 5, 1874 in Springfield, Illinois.
He died Friday, February 14 at a nursing home in The Dalles, Oregon where
he had been under care for the past 1½ months.
He is survived by two sons, Lester J. of North Bonneville
and Charles G. of Vancouver; sister, Elsie Boulder, also of Vancouver, two
grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
