ALBERT FREDERICK PORTNER
Albert Frederick Portner, who had been a resident of
White Salmon for only three weeks, died at Good Samaritan hospital in Portland
on May 8.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1916 at Cherokee, Iowa and had
lived the last six years at Kinzua, Oregon. Before that, he had lived at
Tillamook, Oregon. He also had lived in Trout Lake between 1944 and 1966
where he worked in a sawmill.
Mr. Portner belonged to the B.O.P.E. #1868 of White Salmon
and was a member of the Western Council LP1W Timber Operators Council Trust.
He is survived by: his wife, Irene P. Portner of White
Salmon; three sons, Marshall Portner of Portland, Oregon; Ralph Portner of
Slidell, Louisiana; and Randy Portner of Hood River; three daughters, Betty
Murphy of Renton, Washington; Jane Hall of Hood River; and Carol Tayler of
Golden, Colorado; two brothers, Peter Portner of White Salmon and Lloyd Portner
of Bingen; seven sisters, Adele Mansfield of White Salmon; Betty Kessinger
of Klickitat; Loraine Laird of Klickitat; Violet Shum of Bingen; Fonda Engle
of Hood River; Rose Smith of Grants Pass, Oregon; and Lilly Bringer of Milbank,
South Dakota.
Services were held at Gardner's Funeral Home in White
Salmon on Monday, May 12, at 2 p.m. with Rev. David E. Steckman of the Grace
Baptist Church officiating. Interment was at the White Salmon Cemetery.
