ANNA BRUNER
Anna Isabell Tucker was born to Joseph B. and Harriett
Tucker January 25, 1881, at Silver Lake, Mo. She was the second youngest
of a family of seven girls and two boys. All have preceded her in death except
her younger sister, Clara Boxdorfer, formerly of Goldendale and now of Sioux
Falls, SD.
She was married to John Henry Bruner February 12, 1900,
in Perryville, Mo. In 1902 they and their infant son, Clyde, sold their
possessions and traveled by train to Washington and settled in the Crofton
Prairie area. For 40 years they farmed, logged, and worked in construction,
which included their working together in a sawmill in White Pines.
She worked for a number of years in the sewing room in
St. Elizabeth Hospital while they lived in Yakima forming fast friendships.
In March of 1942 they moved to Goldendale and have lived at their present
home since. She retired in 1949 from the Goldendale Gift Shop, where she
clerked for Mr. and Mrs E.C. Kaiser. She enjoyed excellent health until just
recently.
Mrs. Bruner passed away in Goldendale Saturday, January
8, 1972, just 17 days before her 91st birthday and a month before she and
her husband John would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband John; one grandson, Darwin
Bruner of Portland, four great grandchildren: Susan Johnston, Bend, Michael
Bruner, Portland, Glen Bruner, and Gay Cameron, Gresham; and four great great
grandchildren. Her children (two infant sons and son Clyde) preceded her
in death as well as one of her two grandchildren, Jeannie.
