ALVIN MARVIN
Alvin John Marvin, a longtime White Salmon resident,
died Nov. 7, 1996, at the Hood River Care Center, at the age of 76.
Mr. Marvin was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Glenwood, to Vida
E. (McCumber) and John T. Mann. He moved to White Salmon at the age of four.
He graduated from Columbia Union High School and entered the Army Air Force.
He was an air mechanic school crew chief. He served in the Civil Service
for four years.
He married his wife, Alice, on Jan. 28, 1950. He returned
to White Salmon and worked for Broughton Lumber Company for 32 years, retiring
in 1982.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the
Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent de Paul Society. He loved to bowl and
collect coins. He aspired to be an artist at one time and was very talented.
He recently suffered a stroke.
Mr. Marvin is survived by his wife, Alice, White Salmon;
daughters Eileen Fielding, Yakima, Ann Marie Osborn and Christina Tate, both
of Carson; sons John Louis Marvin, Portland, and A. David Marvin, White Salmon;
niece Sandy Heinz, Vancouver; and 12 grandchildren.
A memorial mass was held Nov. 11, 1996, at 10a.m. at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church in White Salmon, with Rev. Tom Dahlquist
officiating. A private interment was held at White Salmon Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society
or Knights of Columbus.
Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
