OBITUARY
Andrew Johnson, aged 84 years, died Tuesday, at his home
at Lyle. He had been ill for nearly four months, or since the death of his
beloved wife, Dec.10th, 1931.
He was born in Halsingland, Sweden, Jan. 1st, 1848, and
at the age of fifteen he was confirmed in the Lutheran church.
He came to the United States in 1882 settling near Larimore,
North Dakota. In 1885 he was married to Anna Rustlin, and to this union eight
children were born, two of whom died in infancy.
In 1900 after a serious illness he went to Europe, remaining
there three months, returning home, his health not greatly improved. He came
to Washington in 1903 living on a farm until two years ago, when he moved
to Lyle.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters: John,
of Beaverton, Oregon; Victor and Albert, of Lyle; Mrs. H.L. Lindley, of Garden
Home, Oregon; Mrs. Frank Curl, of Lyle, and Mrs. Wm. Zulfer, of Portland;
12 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Martha Westberg, of Goldendale, and one
brother, Pete, of Canada.
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in his wisdom has recalled,
The boon his love had given;
And though the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in heaven.
