ALVA L. "ROY" BROWN
Alva Leroy "Roy" Brown passed away Monday at Klickitat
Valley Hospital.
He was born Aug. 25, 1886, in Harney City, Ore., son
of pioneers Albert J. and Elizabeth R. Brown. He spent most of his life farming.
He married Mabel M. Day Nov. 25, 1909. She preceded him
in death in 1970. The couple had seven children - Keith L., Coos Bay, Ore.,
Orris M., Geneva Ward, Vena May Williams, all of Goldendale; Vina Springer
and Rita Rosebaum, both of Irrigon, Ore. and Eydthe Monroe, Klickitat.
Survivors also include several grandchildren, several
great grandchildren, one great great grand child, numerous nieces and nephews
and one sister, Alta Smith, Sumner.
His father had 80 acres now used for the townsite of
Centerville and platted the first post office in 1872. In 1884 he sold the
townsite to J.B. Golden.
He had quite an experience while living in Klickitat
on the old Skookum Ranch. He helped in the reburial of the Indian chief Skookum
Wallaha. He built the coffin for the Indian chief. After the burial, built
a fence around the gravesite near the Klickitat River and bought the original
marker for it.
Services will be today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at the Knosher
Funeral Home. Graveside services will be in the Centerville Cemetery.
