RITES HELD FOR A.G. LEWIS
Aubrey Gorden Lewis was born in Vesta, Virginia on April
22, 1880. He married India Agee, March 16, 1905 in Meadows of Dan, Virginia
and they moved to Glenwood in 1908.
He bought 80 acres of brush and timber from the state
and cleared and improved the land. Over the years he operated grocery stores
in Centralia, Glenwood and Bingen. In 1948 he sold the ranch and retired
to Bingen. He passed away at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon on February
2. In April of this year he would have been 80 years of age.
He is survived by his wife India and three sons, Clarence
of Glenwood, Wash., Harold of Bingen, Washington, Russell of American Lake;
and five daughters; Mrs. Henry Ladiges Jr., of Glenwood, Mrs. M.J. O'Grady
of Hermiston, Oregon, Mrs. Verley Woosley of Hood River, Mrs. W.M. Davis
of Glenwood, Washington and Mrs. Walter Kidd of Portland, Oregon and 17
grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, Elmer and a sister,
Mrs. Jettie Newman, both of Vesta, Virginia.
The funeral was held last Friday, February 5 at Gardners;
burial was at the Glenwood cemetery and Kenneth O. Shellbach officiated.
