AMY PATTON PASSES AT PORTLAND

     Amy Patton was born September 3, 1888 and passed away July 27 in the Providence Hospital in Portland, at the age of 69.
     She was born in Laurel, Washington and lived there all her life.
     She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Glenwood Grange No. 94, the Camas Prairie Association, the Women's Club and she was a charter member of the National League of Postmasters (40 years member since 1918).
     She is survived by a sister, Jane Kreps, Laurel; two brothers, Russell Kreps, Gilmer and Oliver Kreps, Laurel; two aunts, Mrs. A.E. Johnson, Scappoose and Mrs. Mollie K. Cole, Olympia; also 6 nieces and 2 nephews.
     Rosary will be at Gardner's Funeral Home Wednesday July 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be said at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

POSTMASTER LAUREL DIES

     Service will be held at 9:30 today, Thursday, July 31 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, White Salmon, for Mrs. Amy Patton, 69, of Laurel who died Sunday July 27 at Providence hospital, Portland.
     The Rev. Father Haven of Jesuits high school, Beaverton, Oregon, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Adams Grange Cemetery at Glenwood.
     Pall bearers are Merle Akerill, Osmar Kuhnhausen, Frank Leaton, Frank Lyle, Howard Murray and Leonard Schilling.
     Mrs. Patton (nee Amy Vivian Kreps) was born at Laurel Sept. 3, 1888 and lived there her entire life. She has been Postmaster of Laurel for forty years.
     Mrs. Patton was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Glenwood Grange No. 94, Camas Prairie Pioneer Assn., the Woman's Club and Ladies Aid of Glenwood. She was a charter member of the National League of Postmasters founded in 1918.
     She is survived by her sister Jayne Kreps of Laurel,; brothers Russell Kreps of Gilmer Valley and Oliver Kreps of Laurel; and Mrs. A.E. Johnson of Scapoose, Oregon and Mrs. Mollie K. Cole, Olympia; six nieces and two nephews.
     The family suggests that friends who wish may make memorial gifts to either the Cancer or Heart Fund.

AMY VIVIAN PATTON

     Amy Vivian Kreps was born September 3, 1888, the daughter of Oliver and Margaret Kreps of Laurel, and granddaughter Jane and Peter Conboy and S.P. and Catherine Kreps, early pioneer settlers of Camas Prairie. She lived at Laurel and passed away after a short illness in Providence Hospital, Portland, July 27, at the age of 19 years, 10 months and 27 days.
     She attended public schools at Laurel and was a graduate of Portland Business College. She took a Civil Service examination and was appointed Laurel postmaster in 1918 and was served the public in that capacity ever since. She was a charter member of the National League of Postmasters.
     She was united in to Howard C. Patton on April 18, 1923 at the St. Joseph's Catholic church in White Salmon. They made their home in Laurel where she continued as postmaster and store owner. Howard preceded her in death on November 8, 1952.
     Amy was interested in people and was never happier than when helping someone else. She participated in many community activities and generously give of her time and energy. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary of Evans Childs Post 87, and the Camas Prairie and Vicinity Pioneer Assn., serving as treasurer at the time of her death.
     For many years she had been active in the Glenwood Woman's Club, was past president Federation of Woman's Clubs of the Mid-Columbia District, Glenwood Ladies Aid; PTA, chairman of the local polio committee and Red Cross, and was in charge of the, community sewing for Skyline Hospital.
     She is survived by one sister and two brothers, Jayne Kreps of Laurel, Russell R. Kreps of White Salmon, and Oliver P. Kreps Jr. of Laurel; two aunts, Mrs. A. E. Johnson of Scappoose, Ore. and Mrs; Mollie K. Cole of Olympia; six nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, three great nephews numerous cousins, and a host of friends.
     Last Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Rosary was recited at Gardner's Funeral Home. Mass was offered Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, White Salmon. Interment was in the Mt. Adams Cemetery, Glenwood.

ANY PATTON PASSES AWAY

     Amy Patton died at Providence Hospital at Portland this week. She never recovered from surgery she underwent last Thursday. She will be missed in our community where she was known and loved by all.
