KLICKITAT COUNTY PIONEER PASSES AWAY IN YAKIMA HOSPITAL MARCH 21

Mrs. Annie Sophia Stegman, pioneer resident of Klickitat County, died on March 21st at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Yakima. Mrs. Stegman had lived in Klickitat County since shortly after her marriage to D.H. Stegman on the Jan. 1, 1881.
Born in Mt. Savage, Maryland, on November 22nd, 1853, she was the daughter of Benedict and Mary Gelhaus. Of her six brothers and sisters, only one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Mellecker, of Riverside, Iowa, is now living.
The parents moved to Iowa when Mrs. Stegman was about 14 years of age, and she lived on a farm near Riverside until she was 20, when she moved to The Dalles, Oregon, where she lived at the home of her uncle, and John Wintermeir until her marriage to D.H. Stegman on Jan. first, 1881.
Shortly after her marriage, she came to Klickitat County, where she made her home on a farm a few miles west of Warwick.
The family moved to a wheat farm near Centerville in 1901, and Mrs. Stegman remained there until about eleven years ago. Since that time and she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Gerber, in Goldendale.
Mr. Stegman preceded her in death, passing away in October, 1945 at the age of 92 years. Mrs. Stegman has been in fair health, considering her age, until last June. In October she was taken to Yakima for medical care, and responded quite well to treatment, showing considerable gain, until three weeks ago, the family stated. At that time she contacted pneumonia, and was taken to the hospital, where she steadily grew worse, and finally passed away on March 21st, at 2:20 p.m.
Mrs. Stegman was the mother of five children, Charles D. and Meta Morrow, deceased; Henry Stegman and Bertha Gerber, of Goldendale; and Mrs. Mayme Mueller of Yakima. There are four grandchildren, Raymond Mueller, Alfred and LaVerne Wilke, and Anna May Stegman.
Mrs. Stegman was an ardent member of the Catholic Church, and belonged to the Ladies Altar Society of the Holy Trinity Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Goldendale.
