ATHLENE KENNEDY

     Athlene Yeackel Kennedy, 79, a lifelong resident of The Dalles area, died at the local hospital, Feb. 11 after an extended illness.
     She was born August 20, 1914 in Centerville, Wash., to Loris and Ruby Yeackel, who were early pioneers of the Wasco-Klickitat areas.
     Mrs. Kennedy worked as the manager of the Barbecue Restaurant from 1951 to 1967. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Navy Mothers Club, and the USO Mothers Club.
     Survivors include three sons, Edward R. Elston, Klamath Falls; Lawrence D. Elston, Portland; and Michael K. Elston, Echo; and 10 grandchildren.
     Funeral services will be at Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Casketbearers will be David Pierce, Lawrence Dennis, James Kane, Frances Gilkerson, Michael Williams and Richard LaMarche.
     Private burial will be at Centerville Cemetery in Centerville.

     Athlene Yaeckel Kennedy, of The Dalles, born Aug. 20, 1914 in Centerville to Loris and Ruby Yaeckel, passed awayf Feb. 11 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center following an extended illness.
     She had been employed 16 years, until 1967, as manager of the Barbecue Restaurant.
     Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Navy Mothers Club, and the USO Mothers Club.
     Survivors include three sons: Edward R. Elston of Klamath Falls; Loris D. Elston of Portland and Michael K. Elson, Echo, Oregon; and 10 grandchildren.
     Funeral services were conducted at Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating, before private burial services at the Centerville Cemetery.
     Casketbearers included David Pierce, Lawrence Dennis, James Kane, Frances Gilkerson, Michael Williams and Richard LaMarche.
