BERT HUFFSMITH
Bert Dwayne Huffsmith, Trout Lake, died at his home on
May 6, 2005. He was 63 years old. He was born in Glenwood on March 24, 1942,
to Opal Lillian (Schneidler) and Bert R. Huffsmith.
Mr. Huffsmith was raised in Glenwood and in his younger
days enjoyed deer hunting.
Throughout his lifetime he hunted elk. In 1959 he married
Mary Kathleen Vaughan. Mr. Huffsmith worked for many of the local logging
companies as a logger and loader operator, though at the end of his career
he had his own business.
He was a member of the Trout Lake Fire Department, served
for one term on the Trout Lake School Board and was instrumental in the initial
ground work for the new school. For many years, he also was very involved
with the Klickitat County Sheriff's Office Reserves.
Survivors include his daughter Vicky Ramsay, Lyle; sons
Guy Huffsmith and Roger Huffsmith, both of Trout Lake, and James Skerbitz,
Gresham, Ore.; sisters Margaret Lucas of Vancouver, and Cindy Reeves, Husum,
and seven grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Huffsmith in death are his parents
and his wife, Mary, who died in August of 2003.
A memorial service will be held at the Trout Lake School
on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at 1 p.m. The family will observe private graveside
services.
