BENJAMIN F. WINTERSTEIN PASSES; CAME TO KLICKITAT COUNTY IN 1884
Benjamin Franklin Winterstein was born in the state of
Iowa, May 22, 1858, and died in Goldendale on Dec. 31, 1924, at the age of
66 years, 7 months and 9 day.
When a boy he moved with his parents from Iowa to Kansas.
He was married Oct. 25, 1881 to May Elizabeth Lester, at Smith Center, Kansas.
To this union were born five children; One son, Ernest Winterstein of Goldendale;
four daughters, Mary Winterstein of Portland; Ida Stevens of Portland; and
Eva and Ruth, who passed away during infancy.
He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his children, one
brother, J.W. Winterstein of Wayne, Nebraska; and eleven grandchildren and
one great grandson; also other relatives, and a host of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Winterstein moved to Klickitat county in
1884, where they resided on a farm in the Spring Creek section, and where
his son now resides. In the fall of 1908 they moved to Goldendale, where
they lived until the death of his wife, July 26, 1924. The deceased united
with the Advent Christian church about 34 years ago, being a member at the
time of his death.
Funeral services were held at the Chapman undertaking
parlors Saturday afternoon. Rev. H.B. Ham spoke words of comfort to the bereaved
children, who had to part with their mother only five months and five days
before the death of their father.
Interment was made in the Spring Creek cemetery, beside
his wife.
Farewell dear father, sweet thy rest,
Weary with years and worn with care,
Farewell, till and some happy place
We shall behold thy face again.
'Tis hours to miss the, all our years,
And tender memories of thee to keep,
Thine in the Lord to rest, for so
He giveth His beloved sleep.
'Tis hard to break the tender cord
When love has bound the heart,
'Tis hard, so hard, to speak the word:
"We must forever part!"
Dear father, we must lay thee
In the peaceful grave's embrace;
But thy memory will be cherished
'Till we see thy heavenly face .
