BETTY MORBY
Betty Jean (Abrams) Norby died Nov. 13, 2000, in White
Salmon, at the age of 68.
Mrs. Morby was born in Web, Idaho, on Oct. 28, 1932,
to Andrew and Stella Abrams. They moved shortly thereafter to Underwood,
where she grew and attended school. A lifelong resident of Underwood, Mrs.
Norby met and fell in love with Robert M. Morby of Chenowith, Wash. They
were married on Aug. 5, 1949, and made their first home on the Morby homestead
in Chenowith, before buying their current home in Underwood in 1952.
Mrs. Norby took on the job of raising four children and
being a housewife full time. When the kids were raised sufficiently, she
went to work Diamond Fruit Growers in Hood River and then Underwood Fruit
Company. She worked almost 28 years in that occupation.
Mrs. Morby loved to knit and crochet and was an excellent
cook. She loved her flowers and had an excellent flower garden.
Mrs. Morby is survived by her husband, Robert, Underwood;
sons Don, Kennewick, and Robert J., Bellingham; daughters Beverly, Dufur,
Ore., and Nancy, Underwood; brothers Fred Abrams, Hockinson, and Harry and
Andy Abrams, both of The Dalles. Ore.; sister Bertha Brown, The Dalles, Ore.;
10 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy
and brother Frank
Funeral services for Mrs. Morby will be held on Friday,
Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Underwood Community Center with Pastor Asa Jensen
officiating. A potluck will follow the service. Vault interment will be at
Chris Zada Cemetery in Underwood.
