Interment was held Wednesday in the Mt. Adams cemetery for Mrs. Bertha O'Connell, 65, who had died April 20 at the Ernest Herspool home in Sunnyside. Born at Otsego, Michigan, March 27, 1876 Mrs. O'Connell settled on a homestead at Laurel with six of the brothers and sisters located on adjoining homesteads. They were Mrs. Grover, Mrs. Strout, Mrs. Westly Shockley, Mrs. Ernest Herspool, and Nat and Ed Chapman. Mr. O'Connell passed away in January 1940 and Mrs. O'Connell since holding a sale at the Laurel place in September, had made her home at Herspools in Sunnyside. Attending the services Rev. Fike conducting here were Mr. and Mrs. E. Herspool, Miss Esther Strout, her brother, Joyce Strout, Mrs. Pearl Shockley and two sons, Clifford and Cecil, all of Sunnyside, and Mr. O'Connell senior. Tom O'Connell and wife of Seattle. Also surviving is a son Virgil O'Connell and two grandchildren, Frances and Betty who live in Texas.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha L. O'Connell, 64, who passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Pearl Shockley in Sunnyside, Sunday morning after a long illness, were held in the Walter C. Ball & Son chapel, Tuesday, at 1:30. Rev. A.U. Logan preached and burial was in the Glenwood cemetery Wednesday with a graveside service conducted by Rev. B.J. Fike. Those left to survive her passing are a son Virgil and three granddaughters in Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Shcokley, Mrs. Minnie Strout and Mrs. Allie Hurspool, all of Sunnyside, and one brother, Ed Chapman of Sunnyside.
