NIVA
Mrs. Bess Niva, 101, of Goldendale died Monday, May 21,
in Goldendale. She was born on September 17, 1888, in Pendleton, Ore.
Mrs. Niva and her husband Albert lived in Portland and
operated the general store in Centerville from 1921 to 1937. They moved into
Goldendale in 1950 were Mrs. Niva worked for Ledbetters, the Style Shop and
the Chamber of Commerce. She was elected City Clerk in 1952 and retired from
that job in 1963.
Mrs. Niva was a member of the Evergreen Chapter No. 1
Order of Eastern Star in Goldendale, the WWI Veterans Auxiliary and the Federated
Woman's Club and was active in the Senior Center.
Mrs. Niva is survived by one niece, Jean Gronnert of
Portland.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 25, at 2
p.m. in the Centerville Cemetery with Pastor Vince Hart of the United Methodist
Church and Evergreen Chapter No. 1 O.E.S. officiating. Interment follows
under the care of Knosher-Erdman Funeral Home.
