BENJAMIN MARSHALL
Benjamin Marshall, 85, died at his home in Trout Lake
on Monday, Dec. 15, 2003. Funeral Services will be at the Trout Lake School
on Saturday morning, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m., followed by a lunch at the Trout
Lake Grange Hall.
Burial will be at the Trout Lake Cemetery.

BENJAMIN MARSHALL
Benjamin Warren Marshall died at his home in Trout Lake,
on Dec. 15, 2003. He was 85 years old.
He was born in Underwood on Aug. 2, 1918, to Benjamin
A. and Pearl Susan (Jones) Marshall. He attended the Trout Lake School until
the 10th grade, at which time he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.
He later helped in the building of Bonneville Dam.
Mr. Marshall married Betty Niday on Nov. 11, 1939. The
couple was married for 49 years before she died on Dec. 29, 1988. In April
of 1990, he married a lifelong friend, Erma (Kilroy) Frey.
Mr. Marshall was inducted into the U.S. Navy on Dec.
21, 1943 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. Mr. Marshall
received an honorable discharge from the military on Oct. 17, 1945. In 1953,
he returned to Trout Lake and ran a dairy farm. He then worked as a logger
until his retirement, working for Longbell in Trout Lake, Hollenbeck and
SDS Lumber Company.
Mr. Marshall was a rock hound and bottle collector. He
loved antiques and woodworking and built three homes. He was a hunter and
fisherman, an avid reader and history buff. Mr. Marshall was a lifetime member
of the Elks club, the American Legion and Trout Lake Grange. He was busy
all the time, and enjoyed gardening, playing cards with his buddies and writing
poetry.
Mr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Erma, Trout Lake;
daughters Joanne Hanson, White Salmon, Jeannie Marshall and Darlene Presler,
Trout Lake, Linda Walker, White Salmon, and Mary Pierce, Silver Lake, Ore.;
stepchildren Lewis Frey, Alaska, Jackie Brandon, Trout Lake, Danny Frey,
Lyle, and Richie Frey, Trout Lake; sister Helen Luke, Vancouver; 16
grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are siblings Harold, Bill, Florence, Evelyn, Irene,
Faye and Ella.
A funeral service for Mr. Marshall was held at the Trout
Lake School on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m., with interment at the
Trout Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Gorge in care
of Gardner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 390 White Salmon, Wash., 98672, who handled
arrangements.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, the American

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Erma, at home;
five daughters, Joanne Hanson and Linda Walker, both of White Salmon, Wash.,
Jeannie Marshall and Darlene Presler, both of Trout Lake, and Mary Pierce
of Silver Lake, Ore.; one stepdaughter, Jackie Brandon of Trout Lake; three
stepsons, Lewis Frey of Alaska, Danny Frey of Lyle, Wash., and Richie Frey
of Trout Lake; one sister, Helen Luke of Vancouver; 16 grandchildren; 31
great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will begin at 11 a.m. today at Trout Lake School.
Burial will be in Trout Lake Cemetery.
