CARL HOLMES
94-year-old Carl W. Holmes, formerly of Bingen, died
on March 12, 2002, in St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
The son of Thomas and Sarah Holmes, Mr. Holmes was born
on June 21, 1908, in Omaha, Neb. He married Helen Slocum on Feb. 26, 1936.
He was employed by SDS Lumber Co. prior to retiring in 1974. He also served
as a volunteer firefighter for Bingen.
Mr. Holmes was a hard-working good provider, never resting
even after working. Mr. Holmes loved the outdoors, RVing, camping, fishing,
telling stories, reminiscing about his early years in the Midwest, taking
care of his wife, and keeping busy. He was always seen wearing his trademark
bola or cord, ties.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his bride of 66 years, Helen
Holmes, Gresham, Ore.; son Vern Holmes, Gresham, Ore.; grandchildren Terry
Holmes, Carol Holmes and Christopher Holmes, all living in the Portland area;
great-grandchildren David Conroy and Matthew Conroy, Wyoming, and Douglas
Woods and Faith Woods, both of Beaverton, Ore.; and numerous great,
great-grand-children.
Services for Mr. Holmes were held Monday, March 18, 2002,
at 1 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon.
