CARL JASPERSON
Carl Jasperson, a longtime resident of Lyle, died Sept.
10, 1997, in The Dalles, Ore., at the age of 84.
Mr. Jasperson was born March 21, 1913, in Tennessee Ridge,
Tenn., to Edward and Laura (Hansen) Jasperson. He was raised in Minnesota
and worked in the shipyards during World War II. In 1938, he married Shirley
Krominga and they moved to Klickitat County in 1953.
He was skilled at woodworking and built many houses in
the area. He made the cross and red flame that sits atop the United Methodist
Church in Lyle.
He was a member of the Bingen Eagles #2210, Lyle Methodist
Church, and was a 50-year member of the Carpenters Union. His hobbies included
gold prospecting and poetry. Mr. Jasperson was an inventor, mechanic, hunter
and avid reader. A well-read and self-educated man, he made his living working
as a millwright on local dams.
Mr. Jasperson is survived by his wife, Shirley, Lyle;
son Jay Jasperson and daughter Jackie Johnson, both of Lyle, daughter Jeanne
Agostinelli, Spokane; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held Sept. 13 at 3 p.m. at Gardner Funeral
Home.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Alzheimer's
Association in care of Gardner Funeral Home.
