CHILD DIES OF ELECTRIC SHOCK AT UNDERWOOD

     A 6-year-old Underwood girl died of electrical shock Friday after she accidentally touched a 6,900 volt power line while climbing a tree.
     She was Cherie Agnes Rippy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Elwood Rippy. Rippy is foreman of the Triple A Orchards at Underwood.
     The accident occurred on the ranch about 11 o'clock Friday forenoon. The child had climbed the tree and accidentally came in contact with a Skamania County P.U.D. line.
     Attempts were made to revive the girl by artificial restoration, and a pulmotor was used in an attempt to save her life. Death occurred about 45 minutes after the accident. Dr. Wallace H. Wolff, of White Salmon, aided and the attempt to revive the child.
     Cherie was born in Oreville, Calif., and had resided in the Underwood district with her parents for a year and a half.
     Funeral services were held Monday, followed by burial in the Underwood Cemetery.

UNDERWOOD GIRL ELECTROCUTED
Grabbed Live Wire in Falling From Tree

     Little Cherie Rippey, 9 year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Rippey of Underwood Heights, with electrocuted by a 6900 volt transmission line of the Skamania PUD at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, after grabbing the line as she fell from a tree located in the yard of the family home.
     Mr. Rippey, is a foreman for the Triple A Orchards of Underwood Heights. The power line ran through a fir tree in which the child was playing, she slipped, grabbed the line and was electrocuted. Efforts of the White Salmon Volunteer Fire Department with their resusitator and doctors were of no avail though they worked for almost two hours over the body.
