CORA A. SERVICE TAKEN BY DEATH
Cora A. Service was born on October 4, 1895 at Grand
Forks, North Dakota. She passed away on December 24, 1968 at the Mid-Columbia
Hospital in The Dalles, Oregon.
In 1905, at the age of ten, she moved to a homestead
near Appleton, Washington with her family, the Andrew Johnsons. Cora became
the bride of Frank Curl in 1917 and settled in Klickitat Heights where there
two sons, Frank Clifford and James Andrew, were born. The family moved to
Lyle in 1922. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, who passed
away March 19, 1950. She was married to Charles D. Service in 1953.
For many years Cora was an active member of the Lyle
Women's Club and also Recording Secretary for the Royal Neighbors of America.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Charles;
her two sons, Clifton of Auburn, Washington and James of Lyle; two brothers,
albert Johnson of Appleton and John Johnson of Beaverton, Oregon; and a sister,
Mrs. Ellen Zufler of Portland, Oregon. Also granddaughters, Mrs. Pat Jones
of Tigard, Oregon, Mrs. Vickie Sullivan of Portland, Mrs. Lynda Durbin of
The Dalles, and Miss Christy Curl of Portland; plus four great grandchildren,
numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at Gardner's Chapel in White
Salmon on Friday, December 27th, at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Balch
Cemetery at Lyle. The Rev. Clare Brown officiated.
