CLARA GARNER

     Clara Coleman Garner, a former Bingen school teacher, died Feb. 3, 1997, in Hood River, Ore., at the age of 88.
     Mrs. Garner was born March 21, 1908, in Bingen to Mary K. (Timm) and Augustus H. Coleman. She then moved to Hollywood, Calif., and then spent most of her school years in Santa Monica, Calif. She moved back to White Salmon and graduated from high school here. She graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg with a teaching certificate. She then taught in both Bingen and Lyle.
     She married Melvin O. Garner on June 3, 1937 in Bingen. She continued to teach and live in Lyle, retiring in 1973. Mrs. Garner moved to Down Manor over a year ago, where she was neighbors with her college roommate Jessie Conklin.      She was a member of D.A.R., Delta Kappa Gamma, and Lyle Women's Club. She loved working crossword puzzles and doing needlework. She also loved playing pinochle and was an avid reader.
     Mrs. Garner is survived by her daughters, Mary K. Young, Vancouver, and Nancy Lee Garner, Kirkland; grandchildren, Lori J. (Curt) Wyrick, Vancouver, and William D. (Stacey) Young, Lake Stevens; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966 and one sister.
     Services for Mrs. Garner were held Feb. 7, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. Vault interment was at Lyle Balch Cemetery.
     Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
     Arrangements were handled by Gardner Funeral Home.

CLARA COLEMAN GARNER

     Clara Coleman Garner, 88, a resident of Hood River, died in Hood River on Feb. 3, 1997.
     She was born March 21, 1908 in Bingen to Mary K. (Timm) and Augustus H. Coleman.
     She moved to Hollywood, Calif. at an early age and spent most of her school years in Santa Monica. She then moved back and graduated from White Salmon High.
     She later graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg with a teaching certificate. She taught school in Bingen and Lyle.
     She married Melvin O. Garner on June 3, 1937 in Bingen and continued to teach and live in Lyle until retiring in 1973.        She moved to Down Manor 1½ years ago where she was neighbors with her college roommate Jessie Conklin.

     She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966 and one sister.
     Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon. Vault interment will be at Lyle Cemetery in Lyle.
