Lived All of Life In Goldendale Vicinity; Remains Interred Tenth
Charles D. Ward, 40, passed away March 7 at the home of his brother, M.J. Ward, on West Main street, Goldendale. Death came after several weeks of ailing.
Obituary
Charles D. Ward was born at Blockhouse, Washington, Nov.
13, 1895 and died in Goldendale on March 7, 1936. He attended school in
Goldendale and in Portland. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Ward,
pioneer settlers of the valley in 1878.
At the age of 14, Charles was injured while participating
in school athletics. His hobby, up until that time, was high jumping and
the injury forced a deformity of the vertebras but did not lessen his interest
in outside activities. It was this injury that eventually forced the weakness,
resulting in his passing.
He is survived by four brothers, Thomas of Portland,
Nicholas of Woodland, California, M.J. Ward of Goldendale and John of Puyallup,
Washington.
Funeral rites were conducted from Holy Trinity Catholic
church at 10 a.m. March 10. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery, Goldendale.
Father Lee officiated at the service.
