Lyle Man Dies Here -- An illness lasting almost a year ended by the death of Chris C. Franzen, 61, Lyle merchant, at a local hospital late Saturday night. Mr. Franzen was well known in the Mid-Columbia district and had been in the general mercantile business at Lyle for the past 12 years. He was born November 22, 1871, on Island Fohr, Schlegwig, Germany, and came to this country at the age 16 years, settling in Washington. He is survived by his widow; three brothers, Franz and Jergen of Germany and Carl C. of Lyle, and two sisters, Mrs. Elena Arfsten and Mrs. Dorothea Barawren, both of Germany. Funeral services will be held in the charge of Crandall's and will be conducted from the community church at Lyle of Thursday at 2 p.m. Reverend W.I. Eck of The Dalles officiating. Interment will be in the Lyle Cemetery.

CHRIS FRANZEN OF LYLE PASSES

Well Known Merchant Had Been Resident Of This County For 40 Years
LYLE, WASH., Feb. 11: -- Christian Franzen, a prominent
business man of Klickitat County, member of Franzen and James General Store
at Lyle, died at The Dalles hospital last Saturday evening after four years
illness. Mr. Franzen was born in Island Fohr, Schleswig, Germany, Nov. 22,
1871. He came to America when 16 years old and was a resident of the Lyle
section for forty years.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Franzen, two brothers
and two sisters in Germany, one brother, Earl, in The Dalles hospital. Burial
services were held at Lyle, Thursday, February 15th.
