HOLLY

     Charlie Eugene Holly, 91, of Glenwood, passed away December 21, 1993 in Hood River, Ore.
     Charlie was born in Dodson, Va. on August 20, 1902 to a family of five children.
     He married Mary Alderman in 1924 and they west in 1928. They settled on a homestead owned by Mary's aunt Justin and George Castle, at the lower end of the Glenwood Valley known as Lakeside. they farmed the land. Charlie also worked for Mt. Adams Pine sawmill. He then went to work for J. Neils Lumber Company at Camp 5, then on to Camp 7, finally to Camp Draper. He continued to work for J. Neils until 1942.
     In 1939 they purchased land on the upper side of the valley where the family was raised and lived in Glenwood. In 1943 he became a full time farmer.
     During his farming days Charlie raised cattle and hay and made other improvements to his land. Charlie loved to visit and tell stories of Virginia.
     Around 1950 Charlie and the boys built a sawmill on his property which they custom cut lumber for local people and trucked lumber to the sawmill at Klickitat. Their sawmill was later destroyed by fire.
     Charlie attended the Glenwood Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Glenwood Grange #94.
     Preceding him in death was his wife, Mary in 1965.
     Charlie is survived by his sister, Susie Adams of Eden, North Caroline; three sons, Edward and Fred of Glenwood, and Daniel of Goldendale; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren.
     Funeral services were held December 24, 1993 with the Reverends Glynn Balch and Dave Tuckness officiating. Interment was at the Mt. Adams Cemetery in Glenwood. Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.              Contributions may be given to the Glenwood Cemetery Association.

     Services for Charlie Holly will be held at Gardner Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 24 at 11 a.m. He will be interned in Glenwood immediately following the services.
