CLARENCE McCUISTION
Clarence E. McCuistion, Hood River, died Sunday at the
age of 72.
Mr. McCuistion was born Oct. 8, 1909, to George and Lillian
(Schmid) McCuistion in Trout Lake. He was raised in Trout Lake and graduated
from Trout Lake High School in 1931. He later attended Washington State
university and Heralds Business School, where he received a degree as a certified
public accountant.
During his high school years he worked for his uncle
Adolph Schmid's dairy farm and later 11 summers in the national forest working
on trails, telephone lines and fire protection. In 1935 he moved to San Fransisco
to help an aunt in the apartment house business.
He married Louise Coate June 19, 1938, at Trout Lake.
After living three years in California, they returned for a job with the
forest guard station in Willard. In September 1941, they moved to Hood River
and both became employed with the Oregon-Washington Telephone Co. (now United)
from which he retired in 1970 as purchasing agent after servicing the company
in numerous responsibilities. He was a member White Salmon Lodge, No. 163
F&AM since 1935, the Earl Dean Independent Telephone Pioneer Association
and Riverside Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; two sons, Clarence
Lee, Hood River, and Steve Bene, Idaho Falls; a brother, William McCuistion,
Trout Lake; a sister, Helen Rodriguez, Fullerton, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. McCuistion were held Wednesday
at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Community Church, with the Rev. Bradford Blunt
officiating. Interment was in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
