CARL TWIDWELL
Carl L. Twidwell, a longtime resident of the White Salmon
area, died Monday night at the age of 87.
Funeral services for Mr. Twidwell will be held today
(Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Gardner's Funeral Home. A complete obituary on Mr.
Twidwell will appear in next week's issue of the Enterprise.

CARL TWIDWELL
Carl Leroy Twidwell, a native of Washington for the last
87 years, died September 26 at Hood River.
Mr. Twidwell was born in Elma April 19, 1896. He was
the middle child of five children. The Twidwell family settled in the Elma
area in 1866. His parents, Ellsworth and Lou Ella Twidwell moved to White
Salmon in 1909 and built a home at Pleasant View, near Husum.
Mr. Twidwell was a past superintendent of the Lewis River
Project and the Hood River-Bend River District for the Pacific Power and
Light Company. His long career of 48 years, began in 1915 at the Northwestern
dam on the White Salmon River.
In 1917, Mr. Twidwell's career was interrupted by World
War I. He joined the Field Artillery, 91st division, American Expeditionary
Forces. Over the years, he was a devoted member of the American Legion, serving
as commander of the White Salmon Post 87.
February 28, 1931, he married Atha Mae Cornutt in Stevenson.
They made their home in the White Salmon area. At his retirement, the Twidwell's
moved into a home on the bluff.
Mr. Twidwell was involved in the Mt. Adams Loggers
Association and the West Klickitat County Posse. In addition to his various
community activities, he gave many years of service to the White Salmon schools.
He served for several years on the local school board, presiding as chairman
until 1950.
Mr. Twidwell is survived by his wife, Atha Mae; two
daughters, Atha Marie Kohler and Carole Lou Ziegler; two sisters, Leone Jensen,
Eugene, Ore., and Ethel Harris, Portland; seven grandchildren and one great-grand
child.
Funeral services for Mr. Twidwell were held Thursday
at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon.
