CLARA MAE DAUGHERTY
Clara Daugherty of Longmont died Thursday, March 2nd,
2000 in Longmont. She was 79.
Clara Mae was born on June 9, 1920 in Husum, Washington
to William Olson and Alena Huff Olsen. She graduated from Columbia High School
in White Salmon, Washington in 1938, and worked as a housekeeper and clerk
until her marriage to Hobert Daugherty in January of 1946 in Spokane, Washington.
They raised a son, and lived in an Osburn, Idaho for 25 years.
Clara loved God, and was a loving mom and grandma, a
loyal friend, and a great optimist. She was an avid cook, flower gardener,
seamstress, and decorator. Having developed a talent for cake decorating
over the years, Clara moved to the Coeur d'Alene area in 1972, and worked
as a baker, cake-decorator, and instructor. She was employed by North Idaho
College for ten years, where she was loved by students and teachers alike,
and known as "The Cookie Lady." She was also active in the unity Church of
Northern Idaho, where she made many good friends.
In 1994, Clara moved to Colorado to be near her son and
his family. She became a member of Westview Presbyterian Church, and most
recently resided at Peaks Care Center in Longmont.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, sister, and
four brothers. Survivors include her son Robert Daugherty and wife Kay of
Longmont; grandsons Dan Daugherty of Boulder and Ben Daugherty of Longmont;
three sisters-in-law: Bessie Olsen, Carol Olsen, and Virginia Olsen, all
of Washington state; and a number of nieces and nephews and their descendants.
A memorial service was held at Westview Presbyterian
Church on Tuesday, March 7, with Pastor Bruce McQueen officiating. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Westvew Presbyterian Church Organ Fund,
1500 Hover Road, Longmont, Colorado 80501. A private family inurnment will
be held in Lyle, Washington.
