     Funeral services of Cecil M. Smith, 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve R. Smith of Vancouver, will be held in Goldendale this afternoon, from the Chapman chapel, Rev. D.A. Storey officiating. Interment will be in at the Spring Creek cemetery. The boy was drowned Monday afternoon, when he fell from a log while crossing a swollen stream.

Cecil Smith Loses Life In Swollen Waters of Lackamas

     Cecil M. Maybeon Smith, 6 years old, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Smith of Proebstel, was drowned at 2:30 yesterday afternoon in Lackamas creek while crossing the creek on a foot log where it runs through the C.P. Anderson farm, two miles beyond Proebstel. The child in company with a classmate, Eleanor Klineline, was on his way to the Klineline farm and slipped from the foot log into the waters of the creek.

Companion Goes For Aid

     The little girl companion immediately ran for help but before neighbors could reach the scene of the tragedy the body had been swept down the flood swollen stream by the swift current about 400 yards. The body was rescued from the stream by Louis Pattus and Peter Frohs, both neighbors, the with the assistance of G.E. Speer and J.H. Goddard, other neighbors, administered first aid. Their efforts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful. The body had been in the water about three quarters of an hour.
     The boy had gone to his home located near Proebstel after school and then started for the Klineline home to play. And while crossing over the footlog slipped into the swollen stream.

To Be Buried In Goldendale.

     The boy is survived by his parents, two brothers, Earl and Virgil, and one sister, Edith, all at home.
     Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of the Limber Funeral Home, Thursday the body will be sent to Goldendale where interment will be made in the family plot of the Springcreek cemetery.

     Funeral service for Cecil M. Smith, 6, who was drowned in Lackamas creek Monday afternoon, were held at the chapel at the Limber Funeral home yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Dr. Charles E. Baskerville officiated. The body was sent early today to Goldendale where a brief funeral service will be held before interment is made in the family plot of the Spring Creek cemetery.
