SERVICES ON FRIDAY FOR C.O. ACKLEY
Charles "Chuck" O. Ackley, White Salmon logger, working
at Elgin, Oregon, was struck by a log Monday, January 4, and killed in the
Eastern Oregon logging community.
Charles O. Ackley was born on March 3, 1907 at White
Salmon and had been a resident of Bingen for many years.
Services will be held on Friday, January 8 at 1:00 p.m.
at the White Salmon Methodist church with the Rev. Oscar Olson officiating,
with the Elks lodge assisting at the service.
Surviving are his wife, Bernice Haynes Ackley, of Bingen;
two daughter: Mrs. Clyde (Betty Jean) Knowles of White Salmon, Mrs. David
(Beverly Joan) Tuttle of Home Valley and his mother, Mrs. Elsie Ackley of
White Salmon. Also five grandchildren; one brother Claude Ackley, of White
Salmon and one sister, Mrs. Al (Beryl) Bennett of White Salmon.

CHUCK ACKLEY KILLED BY LOG
Charles O. (Chuck) Ackley, 52, Bingen met instant death
Monday afternoon, Jan. 4 when a self-set end hook, used to load logs on his
truck, pulled its cable and dropped a log on him while he stood on the ground
near his truck.
Chuck has been employed as a hauler at Elgin, Oregon
by the Ukiah Lumber Co.
Word of the accident was telephoned to the victim's family
by Tho_ Neilson of Bingen, also employed as a hauler on the same operation.
Neilsen did not witness the accident since he was in
town for tire repairs.
Church was born March 5, 1907 at White Salmon and has
spent his life in the logging and lumber business. He was a prominent horseman
and member of Mt. Adams Elks Lodge 1868 of White Salmon.
Survivors include his widow Bernice and two daughters,
Mrs. Clyde (Betty Jean) Knowles of White Salmon and Mrs. David (Beverly Joan)
Tuttle of Home Valley; mother, Mrs. Elise Ackley; brother, Claude, and sister,
Mrs. Al (Beryl) Bennett, all of White Salmon.
Gardners are in charge of funeral arrangements to be
held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at the Methodist Church, White Salmon.
Rev. Olsen will officiate. Mt. Adams Elks will conduct
fraternal rituals at the church and graveside. Burial will be in the White
Salmon Odd Fellows cemetery.

LOGGER WORKER KILLED IN MISHAP NORTH OF ELGIN
Charles O. Ackley, 52, Bingen, Wash., was killed yesterday
afternoon in a logging accident at Jarbeau Meadows about 30 miles north of
Elgin.
Ackley, a trucker for the Ukiah Lumber Co., was standing
on a loaded log truck when a hook came loose allowing a log to hit Ackley
in the head.
The accident was investigated by Union County Coroner
Norm Daniels.
Body will be forwarded to Bingen where funeral arrangements
will be made by the family.
