Saturday funeral services were conducted at Gardners in White Salmon for Charlie Shultz, eldest living resident of this locality who had passed away at the age of 87 years and 10 months. Mr. Shultz was born in Germany January 19, 1854. As a young man he came to Missouri where he married and came to Glenwood more than forty years ago. He had made his home here up until ill health took him to White Salmon. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Jenkins of Glenwood, Mrs. Anna Sanders of California, and one son, Gus Shultz of Mabton, in addition to a number of grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Grange services were conducted with Rev. B.J. Pike officiating. Interment occurred in the Grange cemetery here. Mr. Shultz had been a life long member of the Lutheran church and had held Grange membership here. Among his great grandchildren here are Margret Huffsmith, the Chas. Chris baby and the two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Feller. His son Gus Shultz had been here to see Mrs. Jenkins and his father earlier in the week while on his way to California and was not reached while en route. Mrs. Sanders was also here during the summer to see her elderly father who last year was given a large birthday gathering in his honor at the Bert Huffsmith home, where he greatly enjoyed his great grandchildren. His passing terminates one more link with the colorful past when Mr. Shultz and his wife operated the only hotel facilities available to patrons here at that time. Part of the original hotel structure is still standing on the Frank Creighton place.
