CLARENCE HEWITT PASSES AT DALLES NURSING HOME
Clarence William Hewitt, age 77, passed away at a nursing
home in The Dalles on Jan. 17.
He was born on May 15, 1897 at Stamford, Neb. and he
was a retired employee of the Klicktat County Road District.
Mr. hewitt is survived by his wife, Della Hewitt of Lyle,
three daughters and two sons.
The date of the funeral is not set, but burial will be
at Lyle.

CLARENCE HEWITT SERVICES HELD JANUARY 31ST
Clarence William (Bill) Hewitt who was born May 5th,
1897, at Stamford, Nebraska, passed away quietly in his sleep on January
27th in The Dalles, Oregon.
He moved with his parents to Fleming, Colorado in the
early years and with his brother, Roy, attended school there through the
8th grade. He farmed in Eastern Colorado for a few years and was united in
marriage to Della Myers in March, 1921.
They moved to Hillsboro, Oregon, where he worked at whatever
he could find to do. They then moved to Wyeth, Oregon, and worked on the
railroad for about 1½ years, then moved to Klickitat County, Washington
in January, 1926, and has lived in this county since that time.
They lived in the following communities; Laurel, Snowden,
Appleton, Husum and Lyle. He worked as a logger for many years, when logging
was done with horses. He also worked as a graderman for construction during
World War II, and after that as the graderman for Klickitat County, until
his retirement in 1964.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Della; one
son by a previous marriage, Herbert D., of White Salmon, Washington; two
step-daughters, Eda Hewitt, Coupeville, Washington; May Lane, The Dalles,
Oregon; a daughter, Vera Roberts of Scappoose, Oregon; and a son, Walter
V. of Estacada, Oregon; one brother, Lloyd, of Evans, Colorado. There are
also 20 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren, plus a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by a step-son, Howard, and a
grandson, Bill Roberts.
