CLARISSA W. MUENDER
Clarissa W. Muender of Forest Grove died Thursday, Jan.
19, at Camelot Care Center following an extended illness. She was
88.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 23, at Forest
Grove Memorial Chapel. Rev. Eugene Sabin, retired pastor of the First Christian
Church, officiated. Internment followed at I.O.O.F Cemetery in White Salmon,
Wash.
Muender was born Nov. 9, 1900 in Maryville, Mo. to Howard
Asa and Myrtle Hills Whaley. She attended high school in Maryville. In addition,
she attended N.W. Teachers College in Maryville and Central College of Education
in Ellensburg, Wash. She taught fifth grade in Missouri, Nebraska (during
Would War II) and in White Salmon until her retirement in 1963. She moved
to Forest Grove in 1963 and to Cornelius in 1973. She had lived at Camelot
Care Center since 1979.
She married Frederick Muender June 14, 1925 in Kansas.
He preceded her in death in 1946.
She enjoyed china painting, music, playing the piano
and gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Clara Haight of Prescott,
Ariz.; daughter Julia Rogers of Forest Grove; sisters Ellen Whaley and Jennie
Bailey of Portland; eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Forest Grove Memorial Chapel handled the funeral
arrangements.
