D. SCHMID PASSES
Dewey Schmid, prominent Trout Lake Valley resident, passed
away at a Portland Hospital April 30, after a lingering illness. He was born
in Trout Lake Valley in the year of 1889. He worked many years for the State
Forestry.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at
the school gym. Rev. Borhauer conducted the services. Many attended from
Glenwood, White Salmon and outlying communities.
He was well known and liked by all. He leaves to mourn
his passing, his wife, two daughters, two step-daughters, mother, grandchildren,
brothers, sisters and many other relatives. Our sympathy goes to the bereaved
family.
MANY ATTEND DEWEY SCHMID SERVICE
Out of town of relatives here for the funeral services of Dewey Schmid were Mrs. William Burr of Hawaii, Mr. and Mrs. John Ekstrom of Portland. The women are daughters of Dewey Schmid. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hill of Tacoma, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wallace of Roseburg. They are step-daughters. Mrs. P. J. Keizer of North Bend, Mrs. Rose Sickafoose of Oakland, sisters, Mrs. Irvin Dolezal of Hillsboro and Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Libby of Portland, the women are nieces.

DEATH SUMMONS DEWEY SCHMID
Services were held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 23,
in the Trout Lake school auditorium for Dewey Schmid, 55, who died of cancer
Wednesday night, April 20, at a Portland hospital.
Gardners funeral service were in charge of arrangements.
The Rev. Harold Borhauer of Trout Lake officiated. Hundreds of friends attended
his funeral and the Mt. Adams Elks lodge participated in graveside rituals
at the Trout Lake cemetery.
Mr. Harvey Coate sang "Trees" accompanied by Mrs. Lawrence
McCuistion. Mmes. Arthur Jones and Charles also sang.
Pall bearers were his friends of the Forestry service:
Bill Gross, Eugene Warner of Ellensburg, Lloyd Caryl of Omak, Loren Tucker
and L.T. Webster of Olympia and Dick Russel of Naches.
Mr. Schmid, one of the best liked men in the Mt. Adams
country, was born October 18, 1899 in Trout Lake valley where he spent his
entire life. He was the son of Peter and Elizabeth Schmid. For the past 21
years he was employed by the Washington State Forestry Service, and for the
ten previous years by the U.S. Forestry Service.
He was a member of Mt. Adams Elks Lodge No. 1868 and
the American Forestry Association. He was an outstanding sportsman and a
member of the Mt. Adams Fish and Game Association.
Mr. Schmid is survived by his wife, Bessie, of Trout
Lake; daughters, Mrs. Virginia Burr of Hawaii and Mrs. Barbara Jeanne Ekstrom
of Portland, Oregon; step-children, Nancy Wallace of Roseburg, Ore. and Georgene
Hill of Tacoma; six grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Rose Sickafoose and Mrs.
Bertha Kiezer; half-sisters, Miss Elizabeth Schmid and Mrs. Esther Jennings;
brothers, John and Adolph of Trout Lake; and half-brother, Walter Schmid,
also of Trout Lake.

DEWEY SCHMID OF TROUTLAKE PASSES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Dewey Schmid, veteran forester of Troutlake, passed away April
20 at a Portland Hospital, after an illness of a year. Funeral rites were
conducted at the Troutlake gym Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. Borhauer
officiating.
Dewey was born October 18, 1899 in Troutlake, the son
of Peter and Elizabeth Schmid. He had been in continuous employment with
the Washington State Forestry service for over 21 years, and prior to
that time was with the U.S. Forestry service for 10 years. Troutlake had
been his home all of this life.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie of Troutlake;
two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Burr of Hawaii and Mrs. Barbara Jeanne Ekstron
of Portland, Oregon; two step-children; Nancy Wallace of Roseburg, Oregon
and Georgene Hill of Tacoma; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Sickafoose
and Mrs. Bertha Kiezer; two half-sisters, Miss Elizabeth Schmid and Mrs.
Esther Jennings; two brothers, John and Adolph Schmid of Troutlake and a
half-brother, Walter Schmid of Trout Lake.
Dewey was a member of the Mt. Adams Elks Lodge No. 1868,
the Mt. Adams Fish and Game Association, and the American Forestry
Association.
Pallbearers were his friends of the Forestry Service,
Eugene Warner, Lloyd Caryl, Bill Gross, Loren Tucker, L.T. Webster, and Dick
Russel.
The Mt. Adams Elks Lodge participated in graveside services
at the Troutlake cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hill and son of Tacoma were here over last week end, coming down to attend the funeral of Mr. Dewey Schmid, whose funeral was held last Saturday at Trout Lake.
