DAVID E. STECKMANN
David E. Steckmann, a former pastor at Grace Baptist
Church in White Salmon, died following a coronary by-pass surgery on February
25, in Chula Vista, Calif., at the age of 69.
Pastor Steckmann was born May 13, 1989, in Blakley, Minn.,
to Mathilda Bauman and Emil Steckmann. He attended school in Henderson, Minn.,
where he participated in sports and music. He graduated in 1936. He served
in the Army Air Corps in World War II and was stationed in North Africa.
While serving at Fort George Wright in Spokane, he met and married Mary Margaret
Lightfoot on Nov. 6, 1943. He served as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal
Service for 15 years.
The Lord called him into the ministry to Morgan Acres
Community Church in 1956. He served as pastor there until 1965 when he was
called to the Calvary Baptist Church in Sandpoint, Idaho. He accepted the
call of Grace Baptist Church in White Salmon in 1970. He retired as a pastor
from the Grace Baptist Church in 1983. He began to minister at Tecate Community
Church in December 1984, where he served until his homegoing.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, Tecate, Calif.; sons,
Philip, Portland, Mark, Salem, and Joseph, Portland; brother, Frank, Louisiana;
sisters, Ona Wiese, Minnesota, and Florence Lehnert, Minnesota; and 10
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at Grace
Baptist Church in White Salmon. Interment was in the White Salmon Cemetery.
