FUNERAL OF GLENWOOD NAVY MAN MONDAY

     GLENWOOD, June 21, (Special) -- The Community has been saddened by the tragic death of Don Hoodenpyl at the Naval Base in Fallon, Nevada, Tuesday June 14th. He will have a military funeral at Gardner's Funeral Home in White Salmon Monday, June 20th at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Forest Grove, Oregon.
     His wife Dorothy came home with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lucas and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoodenpyl, who had been in Fallon, Nevada to be at the beside of Don.

FINAL RITES HELD FOR D. HOODENPYL, ACCIDENT VICTIM

     Military services were held for Don Hoodenpyl from the Gardner Funeral Chapel in White Salmon. Monday, June 30. Don, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoodenpyl of Glenwood, Died from injuries received in Fallon, Nevada, where he fell from the fire truck.
     Burial of the popular Glenwood youth was made in Forest Grove, Oregon. Pallbearers were, Mel Young of Centralia (attached to the Fallon Air Station), Jim Johnson, Jim Bolt, Lyle Schillings, Donald Lyle and Frank Gribner, all of Glenwood.
     Donald Lynn Hoodenpyl was born at Hillsboro, Oregon, April 21, 1935, and passed away June 14, 1955 in Reno, Nevada following an accident at the Fallon Naval Air Station.
     He attended schools in Carlton and McMinnville, Oregon, until the sixth grade when the family moved to Glenwood.          "Big" Don was very popular and active in all sports and school activities. He graduated from high school in Glenwood May 22, 1953 and joined the U.A. Navy November 10, 1953.
     Following boot training he attended a special Naval training school in Oklahoma and Florida.
     On January 1, 1955, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Darlene Lucas of Glenwood, who survives. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoodenpyl, brother Steve and sister Judy; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Garrison of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Winnie Hoodenpyl of Gaston, Ore.; numerous other relatives and a multitude of friends.

"Light Voting In Gaston Fills School Board Posts"

     Many relatives and friends of the Hoodenpyl family attended the funeral in Forest Grove Monday of Donald Hoodenpyl, who was killed in Nevada while in training. His grand father and grandmother, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Garrison of Portland and his mother of White Salmon were able to attend but his father, Tom Hoodenpyl, who is suffering from a serious illness of the spleen, was unable to attend. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hoodenpyl lived in this vicinity as young children and when first married lived in Carlton. Their two boys spent their earlier years in Carlton.

NAVY FIREMAN DIES OF INJURIES

     The body of Donald Lynn Hoodenphyl, NAAS fireman, who died Tuesday evening in the Washoe Medical Center hospital at Reno of injuries received Friday afternoon, was shipped Thursday night to White Salmon, Wash. for burial. Arrangements for funeral services were not known.
     The navy man jumped from a moving fire engine which was rushing to a crashed plane at the air base Friday. His foot caught in the hose and he was dragged under the truck, incurring multiple skull fractures.
     No one was injured in the plane crash itself, Cdr. Stan Holm said Friday.

FALL FROM FIRE TRUCK FATAL TO DON HOODENPYL

     Don Hoodenpyl, 2O-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoodenpyl of Glenwood, died Tuesday afternoon from injuries received Saturday night in Fallon, Nevada, when, he fell from a fire truck.
     At press time there was no details regarding the fatal accident of the popular Glenwood youth who was serving with the Navy.
     Don was married New Year's Day (1955) to Miss Dorothy Lucas of Laurel. His wife was making her home with him.
     His parents were in Ashland, Oregon, when they received news of the accident and immediately left for Fallon to be with their son.
     Don had been in the Navy approximately one year.

"Glenwood News"

     The community has been saddened by the tragic death of Don Hoodenpyl at the Naval Base in Fallon, Nevada. He was buried with full military honors at Forest Grove, Oregon. The funeral was under the direction of Gardner's Funeral Home. His wife, Dorothy, returned with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lucas, and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hoodenpyl, who had gone to Fallon to be at his beside after the accident.
