FUNERAL RITES HELD TUESDAY FOR D.H. STEGMAN

     Funeral rites for Dietrich Henry Stegman, who passed away at the home of his daughter in Goldendale last Friday, were held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Father Hamilton officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery.
     Mr. Stegman was one of the oldest pioneers of Klickitat county, having reached the age of 92 years last July 4. He was born in Bremen, Germany, in 1853, and came to New York when he was sixteen. He worked in a wagon shop for a short time, then came west to Orville, California and later moving to Portland, Oregon.
     He came to Klickitat county from The Dalles in 1878 and filed on a homestead near Warwick. He was married January 1, 1881. In only two months Mr. and Mrs. Stegman would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
     He leaves the wife, three daughters, Mrs. Meta Morran, of Centerville, Mrs. Bertha Gerber, of Goldendale, and Mrs. Mayme Mueller, of Seattle, a son, Henry D., of Goldendale, four grandchildren, and one brother, John H. Stegman, of The Dalles.

DIETRICH HENRY STEGMAN

     On Friday, the 26th of October, D.H. Stegman, one of the oldest pioneers of this county, passed away at his daughters home in Goldendale. On July fourth of this year Mr. Stegman was a 92 years old.
     Born near Bremen, Germany in 1853 he came to New York at the age of sixteen. After working there in a wagon shop for a short time Mr. Stegman came to the west coast finding work in Orville, California, and later in Portland, Oregon.
     In the year 1878 he came to Klickitat county from The Dalles and filed on a homestead west of Warwick. Three years later on January 1, 1881, he married Miss Anna Gelhaus. They made their residence on the stock form near Warwick. During the ensuing years Mr. Stegman was engaged in stock grazing and later in wheat farming near Centerville.
     Only two months remained until Mr. and Mrs. Stegman would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. To this union two boys and three girls were born, namely, Charles D., deceased, Meta Morran of Centerville, Henry D. of Goldendale, Mayme Mueller of Seattle and Bertha Gerber of Goldendale. Mr. Stegman is survived by his widow, Anna Stegman and one brother, John H. of The Dalles, Oregon. There are four grandchildren, Raymond Mueller, Alfred and LaVerne Wilke and Anna May Stegman.
