DOROTHY L. SORENSEN

     Dorothy L. Sorensen, a former county resident, died Aug. 18, 2000, in Portland.
     Mrs. Sorensen was born on Aug. 4, 1910, in Victoria, B.C. She was a graduate of Washington High School and Emmanuel Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1933. She worked as a registered nurse for Oregon and Washington hospitals and was employed as a Public Health Nurse for Klickitat County.
     Mrs. Sorensen married Harold Sorensen on April 13, 1943. He preceded her in death in 1968.Mrs. Sorensen lived in Klickitat County from 1943 to 1975, when she returned to Portland.
     She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in White Salmon and a lifetime member of Columbia Grange No. 87 in Lyle.
     Mrs. Sorensen is survived by daughters, Dorothy E. Vollmer, Portland, and JoAnn Roseberry, Durango, Colo.; son Larry Sorensen, Lyle; brothers Jim Cooksley, Boring, Ore., and Dick Cooksley, Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
     A celebration in honor of Mrs. Sorensen's life will be held Aug. 26, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. at her daughter's home. An inurnment will be held Sept. 9, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Lyle Balch Cemetery.
     Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

     A memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, in the home of her daughter Dorothy Vollmer for Dorothy L. Sorensen, who died Aug. 18 at age 90.
     Mrs. Sorensen was born Aug. 4, 1910, in Victoria, British Columbia. Her maiden name was Cooksley. She immigrated to Portland in 1922, and graduated from Washington High School and Emanuel Hospital School of Nursing. Before her marriage, she was a registered nurse and surgical nurse at Emanuel Hospital. In 1943, she moved to Dallesport, Wash., and then lived in other areas of Klickitat County, where she was a homemaker before returning to nursing in about 1963.
     She was a registered nurse in Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, a public health nurse for Klickitat County in Goldendale and a nursing home administrator. She then returned to Skyline Hospital, where she was a charge nurse until retiring in 1972 and returning to Portland. In 1943, she married Harold Sorensen; he died in 1968.
     Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy E. Vollmer and JoAnn Roseberry; son, Larry; brothers, Jim Cooksley and Dick Cooksley; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
     Interment will be in Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle, Wash. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
