SHOT FATAL TO 17 YEAR OLD DAN WIIDANEN
Self-Inflicted Rifle Wound Is Coroner's Verdict
Daniel Matthew Wiidanen, 17, Centerville, shot and killed
himself with a .22 rifle during the night of September 19, Klickitat county
coroner Thurman Ward stated. The boy's body was discovered when his parents
returned home early Friday morning from a party. Ward said his verdict was
suicide with some slight possibility it was an accident.
Dr. Holderby said the shot entered above the left ear
and the boy, a Junior at Goldendale high school, had died between 5 and 9
p.m., Ward stated.
The case was investigated at 6 a.m. Friday by Sheriff
E.C. Kaiser and Deputy Earl Jones, accompanied by a Dr. Holderby and an
ambulance.
The body was taken to the Phillips Funeral Home in Goldendale
for care and funeral rites.
Final rites for the victim were held at Phillips Funeral
Home Monday at 2 p.m. with Carol Barker officiating. Interment was made in
the Centerville Grange cemetery.

Daniel Matthew Wiidanen of Centerville was born in a
January 17, 1935 at Spokane and died September 18 at his home. He was the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wiidanen of Centerville.
Funeral rites were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the
Phillips Funeral Home with interment in Centerville Grange cemetery. Carroll
Barker officiated at the final rites.
Survivors besides the parents are a half-brother, Kenneth
Carter; three uncles, Charles Wiidanen, Reece Andrews and Paul Andrews of
Seattle; and six aunts, Mrs. R.M. Largent of Goldendale; Mrs. Elizabeth Thiele
of Spokane and, Mrs. Avan Kaiser of Freewater, Oregon; Mrs. Ida Barney of
Seattle; Mrs. Hilda Fielding of Portland; and Mrs. Charles Bayman of Centerville.
Pallbearers were Stan Gray, Wayne Eshelman, Johnny Miller,
Ross Shupe, Louis Hill and Larry Kaiser.
