ELSA B. STACKER KLIEN
Elsa B. Stacker Klein was born in Stockton, Cal. on January
10, 1876 and died at the Simcoe Manor Nursing Home in Goldendale on October
3, 1968. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stacker, moved from California to
Hillsboro, Or. and when Elsa was six years old moved to Swale Canyon. It
was here she lived until she attended school at High Prairie with her sister,
Magdalen and brothers Bodo and Fritz Stacker.
Because of the illness of Mrs. Stacker, her sister, Minnie
Wendt, joined the family while they still lived in Germany and came to America
with them and then to their Swale Canyon home where she helped rear the children.
After Mrs. Stacker's death, Mrs. Wendt continued living at the home and helped
run the ranch.
In 1922 Elsa married Heinrich Klein and on the death
of her father, the Kleins came and helped Mrs. Wendt operate the home place.
Elsa's husband preceded her in death in 1964 and at that time she came to
Goldendale to live.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Magdalen Rodenbeck
of Yakima and two nieces, Mrs. Marguerite Watts of Yakima and Mrs. C. Harold
(Martha) Lounsberry of Seattle.
Bishop Daughtry of the Yakima diocese assisted Father
Patrick Byron with the funeral mass held Monday, October 7, 1968 in the Holy
Trinity Catholic Church in Goldendale. A Rosary was said on Sunday at 7:30
p.m. Interment was in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chester Enderby, Don Brashers, Harold
Eshelman, Bill Enderby, Stanley Crocker and August Jackel. Those attending
from out of town included Mrs. Klein's sister, her two nieces and Miss Dorothy
Webster of Yakima and a cousin, Max Janssen of Portland.
