EDWARD CARROLL HOCTOR

     Edward Carroll Hoctor, 72, a lifetime resident of Goldendale, died May 25, 2004, at his home after along illness.
     He was born July 20,1931, in Centerville, to John E. and Ethel (Harris) Hoctor. Hoctor graduated from Goldendale High School in 1949 and attended Multnomah Trade School in Portland. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean conflict and was married to Roberta Pickering Feb. 15, 1958, in Yakima.
     Hoctor had many occupations over the course of his life, working as a farmer, logger, truck driver, dispatcher/jailer, deputy sheriff and school bus driver. He was the official scorekeeper for the Goldendale High School boys' basketball games for many years.
     Hoctor was active in the community, as one of the original members of Rural 7 Fire Department, serving as a volunteer fire-fighter for more than 40 years, afire commissioner for 13 years, fire chief for several years, and one of the founding members of Rescue 7, as well as the Klickitat County Sheriffs Air Patrol. He was a member of the American
     Legion Post 116, a life member of the VFW, a Seventh-degree grange member, a past master of the Pleasant Valley Grange, and 48 years as a member of the Goldendale and Pleasant Valley granges. Hoctor was also a member of the National and Washington State Wool Growers Association, and National and State Ostrich and Milking Shorthorn Associations. He and Robert showed Milking Shorthorn cattle for several years in Washington, Oregon, and California. Hoctor was also a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
     Hoctor had no traditional hobbies, but loved to operate equipment and drive anything with wheels, enjoying the beauty of the country. He enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and a father-figure to many others. Hoctor enjoyed his position as Klickitat County Emergency Fire Coordinator for many years. He and Roberta were timekeepers on many wild fires throughout Washington and Oregon.
     His infant triplet brothers; a brother-in-law, Richard Harbour, and his parents, John E. and Ethel Hoctor, preceded him in death.
     Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of Goldendale; two sons, Larry and wife, Rebecca, of Moro, Ore.; Gary and wife, Tracy, of Goldendale; four grandsons, John, Joe, and Jeff Yourchek, and Wesley Cuff; a sister, June Harbour, of Pullman; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
     Mass of Christian Burial was said on Thursday, May 27, at Holy Trinity Church with Fr. William Byron officiating. Interment was in Holy Trinity Cemetery with military honors provided by Louis Leidl Post 116, American Legion.
     Erdman Funeral Home has care of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, the Goldendale Grange or a charity of the donor's choice.
