ELEANOR C. PUTNAM
Eleanor C. Rathbone was born in McLean County, Illinois,
the 13th of April, 1843. She was the second of a family of eight children,
and came to Klickitat in the spring of 1888. Her familiar name, by which
she liked to be called by her large circle of friends, was "Aunt Ella."
She was married to J.R. Putman at Goldendale, Washington,
on February 16th, 1909. At that time that she was the widow of Charles Campbell,
who died at Spring Creek several years previous. She died at her home in
this city on November 8th, at the age of 78 years.
The deceased had one child, Rosa Campbell, who preceded
her to the Great Beyond 17 years ago. She was a faithful member of the Spring
Creek Baptist Church, and lived a devoted Christian life to her death.
She leaves to mourn her loss, beside many true and loving
friends, and a sorrowing husband, a sister, Mrs. Mary Clemens of White Salmon,
two brothers, H.T. Rathbone and Ira Rathbone, both living in Kansas; a grandson,
C.H. Campbell, of Spring Creek; and living in this community, three nieces,
Mrs. Rachel Morehead; Mrs. Susan Locke, of Snowden, and Mrs. Rose Etherton,
of Montesano, Wash., as well as a large circle of acquaintances, by whom
she was much esteemed.
Funeral services were held at the Spring Creek School
House on Wednesday, Nov. 10th, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.E. Adam.
Immediately following she was laid to rest in the Spring Creek Cemetery,
in the presence of a great gathering who had in many instances, come a great
way to pay their last respects to this kind and good woman. The sympathy
of the entire community goes out to the loved ones who were left behind.
