EVERETT D. HOUDESHELDT
Everett Dale Houdesheldt of Lyle died Monday, July 13,
in Portland, Ore., at the age of 65.
He was born Aug. 23, 1921 to Floyd H. and Lela (Booer)
Houdesheldt in Unionville, Mo., and raised in Iowa. He joined the U.S. Navy
in 1940 and served four years in the Pacific theater; he received 11 major
battle stars. On March 2, 1945, Mr. Houdesheldt married Zena M. West in White
Salmon. He worked as a naval recruiter in The Dalles, Ore., for several years
before retiring from the service in 1960. He later was employed as a clerk
at the Lyle Post Office, a security guard at The Dalles Dam and a long-haul
trucker for 26 years, retiring in 1986. He was life member of the BPOE 1868
and Teamsters Local 313.
Mr. Houdesheldt is survived by his wife Zena of Lyle;
mother Lela Houdesheldt of Garden Grove, Iowa; daughter, Sharron N. Johnson
of Lyle; granddaughter Steffanie N. Johnson, also of Lyle; an aunt, uncle
and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, July 17, in the Gardner Funeral
Chapel of White Salmon, with the Rev. Arthur Dickie officiating. Interment
followed in the Lyle Balch Cemetery, under the direction of Gardner Funeral
Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tall Elks, care
of Mt. Adams Elks Lodge 1868.
