EUGENE E. JOHNSTON

     Eugene Everett Johnston was born January 23, 1886 at Laurence County, Pennsylvania. He passed away at Skyline Hospital, White Salmon July 27th, 1957.
     He came West at the age of 18 years, and after his marriage in 1911 to Golda Vesta Rhodes, he took a homestead at Laurel, Washington, where he operated a blacksmith shop. Later he moved to Trout Lake where he handled complete Harvesting Equipment for several years. The past 30 years he had lived at B.Z. Corners doing sawmill work, logging and farming. He most enjoyed working with machinery of all kinds.
     Surviving are seven of the twelve children born to this union. Five daughters; Ellen Johnston, Tigard, Ore.; Maxine Burgett, Portland, Ore.; Oleta Jordan, Portland, Ore.; Evelyn Hopwood, Dayton, Wash.; and Christian Foster, Portland, Ore. Two sons; Verran Johnston, Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Raymond Johnston, Husum, Wash. Three sisters; Ferne Gerne, Calif.; Cora Hardin, Otis, Ore.; May Garbutt, Pasco, Wash. Three brothers; Jesse Johnston of Sandy, Ore.; Lyle Johnston, Tennessee; and Carl Johnston, Sandy, Ore.
     Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 31st at 2 p.m. in the Gardner's Funeral Home. Rev. Homer Coulson officiated. Interment was in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
     Pall bearers: Paul Newton, Thurman Henderson, Gilbert Gross, Ernest Henderson, Merle McCall, and Joe Venden.

DEATH SUMMONS EX-BLACKSMITH

     Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in Gardner's funeral home for Eugene Everett, 71, of BZ Corners. Burial was in Trout Lake cemetery. The Rev. Homer Coulson of Husum officiated.
     Pall bearers were Paul Newton, Thurman and Ernest Henderson, Gilbert Gross, Merle McCall and Joe Venden.

     Later he moved to Trout Lake where he handled harvesting equipment for several years. Since 1928 he has lived at B.Z. Corners doing sawmill work, logging and farming. He was a skilled machinist.
     Seven of 12 children survive; sons, Verran of Albuquerque, N.M., and Raymond of Husum; daughters; Ellen Johnston of Tigard, Oregon; Maxine Burgett, Oleta Jordan and Christina Foster of Portland, Oregon; and Evelyn Hopwood of Dayton.
     Also sisters, Ferne Gerne of Calif., Cora Hardin of Otis, Ore. and May Garbutt of Pasco; and brothers Jesse and Carl of Sandy, Ore. and Lyle living in Tennessee.
