OBITUARY
Mrs. Emma Monroe passed into the great beyond, Thursday
morning at 2:30 a.m., October 5, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 17
days.
Her birthdate is December 17. In 1859, in a small town
named Woodstock, near Montreal, Canada, she entered this world to live a
life full of happy adventures, even though we know she had her sorrowing
time. Some forty years ago she journeyed to the United States, living in
several different places, and the last thirty years has been spent in this
community, where she is known so well.
"Grandma," the name filled with so many tender, loving
memories, was the name everyone loved to call her.
All through life from early childhood she believed in
the high power above us, who would someday welcome her home. These late years
grandma has been handicapped by her illness in publicly appearing in community
life. However, in her private life, and until her last, she breathed the
fervent prayer that she wanted to be taken "home." Shortly before her last
journey she asked to have "Bringing In The Sheaves," her favorite hymn to
be sung at her bedside.
Those left to mourn the loss of this kind and loving
soul are: three daughters, Mrs. Wm. St. Lawrence, Portland; Mrs. F.P. Richardson,
Klickitat and Mrs. Alex Randall, of Centerville; six grandchildren, and a
host of friends.
Funeral services were held from the Chapman Chapel Saturday,
Oct. 7th at 2:00 p.m. Elder S.C. Eshelman officiating. Interment followed
in the Centerville Grange Cemetery.
