ELWOOD E. KITCHEN
The owner of several grocery stores including the Lyle
Merc Store, Elwood E. Kitchen, of Lyle, died on March 9 in The Dalles. He
was 76.
Mr. Kitchen was born Jan. 3, 1915 in Rothwell, Manitoba,
Can. to Ethel (Flaxman) and Stanley R. Kitchen.
A certified lumber grader, Mr. Kitchen came to Longview
in 1927. He married Pauline Williamson in 1937. He owned and operated the
Lyle Merc Store for seven years and other grocery stores during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline of Lyle; children,
Gary Kitchen, of Castle Rock, Wash., and Barbara Pricehouse, of Lyle; brother,
T.L. Kitchen, of Woodland, Wash.; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren
and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Gardner Funeral Home in
White Salmon on March 14, burial followed at Lyle Balch Cemetery in Lyle.
Family requests contributions to given to the American Cancer Society.
