Ethel H. McAvoy

     Ethel Honor McAvoy of Forest Grove died July 14, 2002 at Jennings McCall II Assisted Living Center, Forest Grove. She was 94.
     A memorial service will be held July 18, 10 a.m., at the Jennings McCall II Assisted Living Center, 2221 Oak St.. Forest Grove, with the Rev. Robert L. Maxson officiating. Lodge Rites will be under the direction of the Home Star Chapter No. 187, Forest Grove. Interment will be held at the Balsh Cemetery, Lyle, Wash.
     Mrs. McAvoy was born July 16, 1907 in the Bradley Homestead, between Loomis and Tonasket, Wash., the daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth (Green), Bradley. She was raised and received her education in the Loomis community.
     She married John H. McAvoy on Oct. 22, 1945 in Nevada. Following their wedding they made their home in several Oregon and Washington communities as her husband worked for the railroad. In 1948 the moved to Ashland until moving to the Masonic & Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove in 1992.
     She worked as a beautician as well as a retail clerk for many years until she retired in the early 1970s.
     She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ashland, having served as an Elder. She was a member, of the Order of Eastern Star in Ashland and Home Star Chapter No. 187 in Forest Grove.
     Her interests included gardening, making Jewelry, painting, crocheting and knitting. She especially enjoyed her roses.
     She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993.
     Survivors include her son, the Rev. Robert L. Maxson of Lopez Island, Wash.; sister Hazel Reay of Tacoma, Wash.; two grandsons; and two great-grand-children.
     The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions made in her memory to the Masonic & Eastern Star Home Endowment Fund, 2221 Oak. St., Forest Grove 97116.

In 194_ they moved to Ashland, Oregon, where they made their home for forty-four years until moving to the Mason and Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove in 1992. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, John, February 17, 1993, after celebrating over forty-seven years of marriage.
