EAVA I. SCHMID
Eava I. Schmid, a longtime Trout Lake resident, died
Sunday October 16 at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon.She was 86.
She was born October 20, 1901 in Greenleaf, MI. to Wesley
& Eliza Jane (Kaiser) Rowley. Eava came to the local area in 1922, and
in 1924 married Adolph Schmid. He died in 1964. Mrs. Schmid was a member
of the Mt. Adams Emblem Club 321, the Trout Lake Grange, Trout Lake Presbyterian
Church, and the White Salmon Federation of Women's Clubs. One of her great
passions in life was quilting, which she started in 1929. Throughout her
life she made more than 140 quilts, many of which ended up in the possession
of family members, friends, and individuals who won them through raffles.
In 1968 she made her first quilt pattern, known as the Rosebud Quilt, as
a Christmas gift to her grandson. After that, Mrs. Schmid made it a point
to make a quilt for every family member when they were born, graduated from
high school, and again when they were married.
Mrs. Schmid is survived by a son, Delbert Schmid of Trout
Lake, a daughter Janice Creighton of White Salmon; sisters, Grace Nothiger
and Gladys Smith, both of Sweet Home, OR., 15 grand-children, 24 great
grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by
one son, Leonard Schmid, in 1982.
Services for Mrs. Schmid will be held Thursday October
20, 11am at the Trout Lake Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jack Randall
officiating. Interment will follow in the Trout Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Mrs. Schmid's name may be given
to Skyline Foundation, to the Memorial Fund care of the Trout Lake Presbyterian
Church.
