EMMA J. BROWNLEE RITES HELD HERE
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant Valley Grange
hall Sunday for Emma J. Brownlee, 88-year-old county pioneer, who passed
away August 12. Mrs. Brownlee resided on a farm in Pleasant. Valley for over
35 years, and moved to Goldendale in 1938, where she resided until the fall
of 1941. From Goldendale she moved to Granger, Washington.
Mrs. Brownlee was born in Iowa, April 4, 1856, the daughter
of Joel and Elizabeth Cowles. She came to Goldendale when a young girl and
on May 15, 1884, was married to W.J. Brownlee. From this union five children
were born of which two are still living.
Mrs. Brownlee is survived by her husband, W.J. Brownlee
of Kent, Ore.; two daughters, Blanche Baldwin, of Los Angeles, Calif., and
Stella Young, of Grass Valley, Oregon; also one sister, Mrs. Nell Shank,
of Colton, Oregon. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild also
survive.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev: Raymond L
Gibbs, of the Goldendale Church of Christ. Interment was in the Pleasant
Valley cemetery.

Dies In Washington -- Mrs. Emma Brownlee, 86, pioneer of Goldendale, Wash., died August 11 at Medico Lake sanitarium near Spokane. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Grover Young of Grass Valley. Services for Mrs. Brownlee will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Valley grange hall in Washington. Interment will take place in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
